Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the pipeline being constructed?
In recent years, residential, commercial, and industrial customer growth has increased demand for natural gas in the City of Saskatoon and surrounding areas. TransGas is building a 62-kilometre transmission pipeline south of Saskatoon to add needed transport capacity to the provincial natural gas system in order to support growing natural gas demands, including new developments in the City of Saskatoon and the surrounding rural region.

How will residents in the area be impacted by construction?
There will be minimal impact to area residents during construction; however, some land use and farming operations may experience inconveniences. TransGas will work to minimize impact, and is committed to negotiating fairly with any landowners affected by our activities.

When will construction start?
The construction of the pipeline is expected to happen in two phases, highlighted on the map on the TransGas project website. Phase I is planned for September 2018 to December 2018, and will include horizontal directional drilling under the South Saskatchewan River. Phase II is expected to begin in early summer 2019 and be completed by the end of 2019, with the pipeline beginning to transport natural gas in 2019.

Who benefits from this expansion?
Industrial, commercial, and residential natural gas users in Saskatoon and the surrounding areas will benefit from the natural gas transported through this pipeline, as existing infrastructure is nearing capacity in some areas.

Natural gas producers will benefit from increased access to natural gas markets. The residents of Saskatchewan will benefit from having the most economical option to meet their growing natural gas needs and energy demands.

What are your next steps?
TransGas will continue to work with stakeholders during and following the construction as required. TransGas will be providing regular updates through the project website as construction proceeds.
