Contracted Capacity refers to the net cumulative amount of gas, measured in GJ's, which a storage customer has the right to inject into the storage facilities at any time during the storage period and is identified on the customer's Storage Schedule for Service. For this service, a storage customer will pay a monthly contracted capacity charge. All storage contracts require a specified level of contracted capacity.
Contracted Rate of Withdrawal (Withdrawal) refers to the maximum rate at which TransGas is obligated to withdraw gas from the storage facilities for a customer on any one day as identified on the customer's Storage Schedule of Service. For this service, a storage customer will pay a monthly withdrawal charge. All firm storage contracts require a specified level of withdrawal. During the period November 1 to April 30 inclusive, a customer's Allowable Withdrawal rights will be based on the customer's actual inventory level.
Levels of Firm Withdrawal
November 1 to April 30 only.
During the period May 1 to October 31 inclusive, the customer's withdrawal rights will be equal to the Contracted Rate of Withdrawal. Excess withdrawal is available daily on a best efforts basis. Interruptible storage contracts do not contract for a rate of withdrawal but utilize excess withdrawal, when available, for the removal of gas from storage.
Rate of Injection refers to the maximum rate at which TransGas is obligated to inject gas into the storage facilities for a customer on any one day. With the exception of a biddable service, injection is free of charge. There are three types of injection: Base Firm Injection, Biddable Incremental Firm Injection and Excess Injection. Storage customers, contracted for firm withdrawal, shall be allocated a minimum level of firm injection capacity. A customer's daily level of Base Firm Injection is determined by his contracted rate of withdrawal and his current level of inventory in storage.
Levels of Base Firm Injectability
Supplemental to Base Firm Injection, a customer may also obtain Biddable Incremental Firm Injection. Any excess monthly injection capability may be offered to storage customers through a bid process. In addition to the foregoing injection services, TransGas may still have daily injection capacity which exceeds firm service requirements. On these days, TransGas will provide the excess injection capacity on a reasonable efforts basis. There are three types of Storage Service:
Firm Storage Service provides a customer with guaranteed space for gas within the storage facilities (Contracted Volume) and a guaranteed rate at which the gas may be removed from the storage facilities (firm withdrawal).
Interruptible Storage service provides a customer with firm contracted volume, however, withdrawal from the storage facilities is provided on an best efforts basis.
Summer Use Storage service provides a customer with a firm contracted volume and either firm or interruptible withdrawal. The Summer Use customer may inject gas into storage and store it year round, however, the gas may only be withdrawn during the summer months of April through October inclusive.
Unit Cost of Storage: There is no storage charge for cycling gas in and out of storage. The more times gas is cycled, the lower the unit cost for storage. To determine your unit cost of storage, a Storage Cost Calculator has been supplied. Information on Storage Service rates can be found in the Rates and Charges section of the TransGas Tariff.
